Halloween Style 2020: Dress It Up With Jewellery

With only a few weeks left until the most spooktacular day of the year, it’s about the right time for many people to realise that they don’t have an outfit prepped yet.

It’s okay – we’ve all been there. And this year is really quite different, as many of us won’t be throwing the usual Halloween party.

However, we think it’s more important than ever to get into the Halloween spirit for 2020! Whether you’re hosting a small get together with your social bubble or a virtual costume contest over FaceTime, dressing up is a must.

We’ve got some last minute Halloween costume ideas for 2020 that you can pull off with minimal effort, and of course, we’ll be sharing our favourite jewellery pieces to match. So take a look and maybe you’ll find the Halloween inspiration that you’ve been looking for!

Halloween Costume Trends (2020)

For many of us, the spring/summer months of this year were spent binge-watching the latest additions to Netflix (what else was there to do??) …Halloween costume trends are always heavily based on pop culture, but in 2020 especially we’re going to see plenty of references to our favourite TV shows.

Read on for some of our favourite last minute costume ideas based on this year’s biggest trends…

Nurse Ratched (from Netflix’s Ratched)

This cold-hearted villain was brought into the modern era in Netflix’s recent series, which explores the origin story behind the infamous Nurse Ratched of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Despite a frosty personality, Ratched’s wardrobe was anything but cold. In fact, much of the time we were blown away by her flawlessly tailored outfits, often featuring boldly coloured two pieces and perfectly matched accessories.

If you want to replicate Ratched’s impeccable style this Halloween, have a scroll through some of these key outfits from the show to find your inspiration.

Alternatively, don a green-blue 50’s style shirt dress and nurse hat to emulate her medical persona in the show. Whatever you choose, make sure to finish your look with a pair of statement pearl earrings!

Connell (from BBC’s Normal People)

Okay, so this one might not be particularly spooky, but if you’re a guy looking for a last minute Halloween costume then it doesn’t get much easier than this!

Normal People was a huge hit back in April, and Connell’s character in particular captured the hearts of many. In an unexpected turn of events, it was Connell’s silver chain – a necklace he wore throughout the series – that made an even bigger impact. That’s right: this chain is so popular, it even has its own Instagram account.

To sum up, if you want to capture this look for your Halloween costume, all you’ll need is your regular everyday clothes – jeans and a plain t-shirt will do – and a statement silver chain to finish the look! We’ve picked a few options out for you below:

Harley Quinn (from Birds of Prey)

The Harley Quinn hype hasn’t faltered since Suicide Squad, and the more recent Birds of Prey has only cemented this character’s popularity.

All you’ll need to bring this Halloween costume to life is some high pigtails, pink and blue hairspray, red lipstick, pinstripe shorts and a colourful t-shirt. Finish the look with a chunky charm necklace!

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas – Keep It Classic

None of those Halloween costume trends strike your fancy? Perhaps you prefer a Disney throwback, or a reference to some of the more timeless pop culture figures of recent decades. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

Cruella de Vil (from 101 Dalmatians)

She’s one of the most famous villains out there, even 60 years after the release of the original film.

Fortunately, the iconic style of Cruella De Vil isn’t too difficult at all to pull off: you’ll just need a black dress, a string of pearls, and the biggest fur coat you can find. Pet-owners out there are in luck, as your beloved pooch can be the finishing touch to this outfit! (Bonus points if the dog is a dalmatian).

If you want to go all out, you can also use hair spray to achieve that half black/half white hair look.

Sandy & Danny (from Grease)

Another outfit that continues to be a frequent costume favourite due to its simplicity and style is that of Sandy from Grease. Team up a leather jacket and/or trousers with your favourite hoop earrings and break out the curling wand to achieve that iconic 70’s hairdo!

This outfit idea isn’t just limited to the ladies; men simply have to pair a leather jacket with some jeans, and you’re set. Don’t forget the hair gel!

Audrey Hepburn (in Breakfast at Tiffany’s)

An iconic style that can easily be replicated (although that Givenchy dress is truly one of a kind), Audrey Hepburn’s outfit in the opening scene of this film is instantly recognisable.

Simply team your favourite LBD with some black elbow-length gloves, oversized sunglasses, statement pearl & diamond jewellery and you’re good to go!
